Q: Do you have a center that I can bring my child to for ABA therapy?
A: We currently provide in-home (and in-community, when appropriate) therapy. Center/Clinic-based treatment will be offered in the future.
Q: What will you do to protect my child and family from the Covid-19 virus and new variants?
A: Each member of our staff has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. We follow additional CDC and Oregon Health Authority protocols for handwashing, sanitizing surfaces, face masks, and distancing.
Q: Does ABA involve using harsh procedures like physical punishment?
A: Sea Change Behavior Analysis (SCBA) and most modern ABA practitioners do not use harsh procedures or physical/corporal punishment. SCBA uses reinforcement, praise, and fun to increase desired behaviors, while problem behaviors are not reinforced.
Q: 10 to 40 hours per week of ABA therapy sounds like ALOT. Is that much really necessary?
A: Intensive and early intervention has proven to be the most effective treatment for children with autism or other developmental disabilities. Less than 10 hours per week of ABA therapy has shown little benefit in these populations. ABA practitioners are ethically bound to provide effective treatment, which includes providing an adequate dose of therapy (10 to 40 hours/week) for children with developmental disabilities and autism. Clients who are less severely impacted may require fewer hours per week. Clinical recommendations are made on an individual basis.
Q: Will my insurance company cover ABA therapy?
A: Federal and Oregon laws determine insurance coverage, with protections in place for patients with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and other diagnoses. Clients are encouraged to contact their insurance company to determine ABA therapy coverage.
